Three unique Maurice Lacroix Pontos Décentrique GMT timepieces
sold for 21,150 Swiss Francs at online auction
Proceeds donated to nonprofit organizations
The three unique watches created by French designer Gwenaël Nicolas, multitalented designer Arik Levy and fashion designer Neil Barrett, developed in cooperation with Wallpaper* and Maurice Lacroix, were sold at auction for over 20,000 Swiss Francs.
The online auction ended on June 19th and drew bids from the entire world with the unique pieces finally going to bidders in Asia and Europe. All proceeds will be donated to organizations specified by the three designers prior to the auction: Arik Levy earmarked his support to go to the Sinjiya-Ton aid organization for Malaysian street children; Gwenaël Nicolas will be donating his percentage to Médecins Sans Frontières; and Neil Barrett has nominated the globally active aid organization Oxfam.
About the project
Authenticity and modernity were the key selection criteria in choosing, in conjunction with Wallpaper*, three designers who could create new interpretations of the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Décentrique GMT. The aim was to find uncompromising designers, loyal to their convictions, whose work reflected uniquely individual styles. The result is an impressive trio consisting of the French designer Gwenaël Nicolas, based in Tokyo, who also designed functional furniture for Cassina and Uniqlo stores, Arik Levy, whose eclectic catalog decisively defies every discipline, and Neil Barrett, a remarkable British fashion designer based in Milan.
Each of them designed a one-off version of the Maurice Lacroix Pontos Décentrique GMT, which won the coveted Red Dot Award for its unique, unconventional display of the second time zone in 2007.
